The Association of Payment Professionals (APP) was previously known as the Merchant Acquirers' Committee (MAC).

The organization officially rebranded on April 7, 2023, after 25 years of operating under the MAC name. The change was made to better reflect its identity as an inclusive community of over 2,100 professionals across risk, underwriting, compliance, and law enforcement, rather than just merchant acquirers
